Country Music is Sophisticated

Shocking Headlines -- And True! As much as we here at sweetpea give folks who don't live up to our high standards a hard time in country music, please be sure that just as we are energetic about the mediocrity we see in singers such as Rascal Flatts and Kenny Chesney, we are even more on fire about the truly gifted artists, the Michelangelos of sound. WE Believe Keith Urban is awesome, he comes up with songs that are fresh, and in the case of STUPID BOY, brilliant. James Otto is an example of a new guy who has an excellent fundamental understanding of what country is all about, and sings songs anyone can enjoy. George Strait is a solid performer, and we at Sweetpea love I SAW GOD TODAY. Allison Krause put the C in classic. We like her collabaration with Robert Plant, and we are noticing a trend of maturing rock singers migrating to country which is good, however I think the government should pass a law that Kelly Clarkson should be banned from singing country --she makes me want to regurgitate. And then, there's Tim McGraw. Listening to RED RAG TOP today I realized that only country could have created that song. Country music is superior to all other forms of popular music, because it has the capacity to rise above itself and create songs like RED RAG TOP, WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL, AND STUPID BOY that are clean, sparkling and make you forget you are even listening to country. ROCK, however, and all its innumerable children, can never get above its adolescent roots when it tries to express anything, however serious --it can never express serious thought without a lot of juvenile affectation, something which country can do. A lot of country songs are silly. And when you listen to them you know right away they are silly. A lot of country songs are serious, and when you listen to them you know right away they are serious. So be proud you're country, it's what everyone who is an adult listens to. Again, RED RAG TOP is so brilliant, and deals with such a difficult human condition, it could have never been in rock, alternative, or any of the other genres which are really all just syncopated versions of the same thing. You know, Altot of the country stars are usually performing there. It usually does good every year. I wonder how it will be this in 2009. Brooks n Dunn used to be friends and for Dale Earnhardt. Wonder if they like his boy?! Does he still race?! Hmmmmm........................... I'm glad the other dayythat Danika Patrick won-a woman! Anyways, that's my take on that. Happy Memorial day w'end!
